Task3-Type Exploration and Application

INTRODUCTION

Type Exploration and Application
This task requires the experience and knowledge gained through the previous exercises, combined with the software and reading I have learned, to complete this task. You can design your own font, continue to explore an existing font or experiment with a font.

1.0 RESEARCH

Proposal

After Mr. Vinod demonstration case, I had some ideas, so I thought of several schemes and had a preliminary idea of my task 3.

Fig. 1.1 presentation

I chose the anime type of design, because I love to read the cute type of manga, and often draw manga. Most of the current manga illustrations are excellent, but I found that there was a lack of comic-related font design, so I wanted to use the theme of manga to design English letters

2. Sketches

I start by identifying the core elements of the typeface, such as circles, rectangles, straight lines, and other geometric shapes, and consider how these elements can be applied to the design of individual letters and numbers

3.Digitisation and Exploration

Geometric shapes: the font consists mainly of simple geometric shapes, such as circles, rectangles and straight lines, giving it a modern and clean look.
Unique decorations: some of the letters contain unique decorative elements within them
Consistency: All letters have the same thickness of strokes, which maintains the consistency of the overall style.
Sans Serif: The font does not have any serifs, adding to its modernity and simplicity.
Unique stroke terminations: Some letters have smooth, rather than sharp, stroke terminations, which adds to the uniqueness of the font.

Mr. Vinod told me that my capital letter and numbers are not in the same size. My capital letter is great.
So I made some adjustments.

When I finished it, I adjusted the height of the uppercase letters, the corresponding height of the lowercase letters, and finished the numbers and symbols according to the standards of other fonts.

4.FONTLAB

After making it in the AI software, I started importing each letter into Fontlab. I was very careful to import each letter, but there was still a problem, my font size was not balanced, so with Mr. Vind's help, I adjusted the font size and successfully imported each letter.

Applications #1 Technology & Electronics:
Due to the modern and technological feel of the typeface, it is suitable for use in technology company brand logos, electronics packaging and user interface design.

Applications #2 Creative Design & Art:
The unique decorative elements and geometric shapes of the typeface are suitable for creative design projects such as posters for art exhibitions and brand logos for design studios.

Applications #3 Advertising and promotional materials:
This typeface attracts the eye and is suitable for billboards, brochures and event posters, especially in situations where visual impact is required.

Applications #4Fashion & Lifestyle Branding:
Due to the stylishness of the font, it can be used for fashion brand logos, clothing labels and headlines in lifestyle magazines.

Applications #5 Gaming & Entertainment:
The modern and unique design of the typeface is suitable for gaming interfaces, entertainment program titles and movie posters.

5.Font Showcase

In my first poster design, I used a colorful collision and letter drop effect, but Mr. Vinod said that my design didn't match my font and sent me references to make a poster based on, as well as helping me to resize the poster, so I was able to make the final design smoothly.

6.Applications

I started by making a graphic plan for my fonts so that my fonts would fit better into each application

Feedback

Week 12: In my first poster design, I used a colorful collision and letter drop effect, but Mr. Vinod said that my design didn't match my font and sent me references to make a poster based on, as well as helping me to resize the poster, so I was able to make the final design smoothly. Week 11: General Feedback :My capital letter is great. Specific Feedback: I need to make the numbers and the capital letter in the same size Week 10: I need to show the process of making my fonts, if I don't have a grid as a standard, the teacher will not know the process of making my fonts, this is very important Week 9 General Feedback: When selecting ideas, we should consider the difficulty of actual completion and narrow the design scope according to the actual situation. Specific Feedback: The idea should be more unique, not new enough. You need to build your own reference fonts and foundation. It can't just be an idea. You need to see the actual effect.

Reflection

Experience
The hard part of this task was finding inspiration. At first I didn't have a good idea to redesign the typeface for the comic, so I decided to continue exploring this typeface, and with the help of Mr. Viond, I was able to discover the characteristics of his typeface, which led to the completion of the task.

Observation
When using the AI software I always accidentally resized the letters so that they were not the same size, all the letters were made high and low and regular in size. I have to be careful in future design assignments, all should save a backup of that stage for future use.

Discovery
At the beginning of the production, I realized that the exploration of fonts is not an easy task, it requires me to have a lot of experience and knowledge of fonts in order to complete it, rather than relying on simple random ideas. However, during the production process, it became easier if I grasped the characteristics of the font and the already matured ideas. I'll keep exploring to make my experience richer
