  1. Collect 28 different logos from your daily interactions, such as those seen when leaving the house, browsing online, or driving.
  2. Then, identify and describe the logos in words. Follow the outline/framework that is provided in this task:
    • Background: The story/history behind the logo's design.
    • Type of logo: Logotype, logo mark, etc.
    • Style: Descriptive, abstract, etc.
    • Graphic elements: Shapes, icons, symbols, etc.
    • Colour scheme: Warm, cool, secondary, primary, etc.
    • Typography: Font style, characteristics, etc.

Submissions:
  1. Submit the work using Google Slide, remember to convert it into PDF.

Progress:
For this task, we were required to collect 28 logos and analyse them based on the framework questions provided in the MIB. I preferred to list down the logos I would like to work on before starting the analysis.

Then, I started to analyse the logos in Google Slides.

TASK 2B: logo

Week 1 (23/09/2024)

Requirements:
  1. Concurrently, while doing the above and upon selection or identification of your brand/occupation, produce 2 sheets of idea-sketches weekly (the more the merrier) for the development of your logo.
  2. Initially, use mind-maps to identify important keywords or key visuals. Develop these into idea sketches and then later into concepts. Narrow down the most promising ideas and concepts. The developed logo in its final most appropriate form will need to be digitised, in black and white (only after approval of the BW version can you embark on selection of colour in Project 3). All progression or exploration—the various evolution of the draft logo—must be documented meticulously, labelled and described at every stage in your eportfolio post.

Progress:

Career Choices

We were asked to come up with at least three career choices and then answer the questions on page 3 based on the guidance provided in myTimes.

Pet Bakery

The stars fall into the sea, the puppy falls into the arms, and the cake wants to fall into your stomach.

What service(s) / product(s) are you providing?

  • You can choose exquisite baked bread at will.

  • You can interact with the puppies in the store, feed them and caress them.

  • Cakes can be customized.

How do you differentiate yourself from others?

  • The puppy's logo is printed on the packaging bag.

  • The cake products are mainly made of puppies.

  • The bread is very exquisite.

  • You can pet the puppy when you buy bread. The puppy has a cheerful and lively personality.

Who will be interested with your product(s) or service(s)?

  • People who like pets,

  • girls who like exquisite desserts,

  • people who love puppies and desserts

This week we were divided into 5 groups to discuss everyone's logo idea. I made a combination of baking and pets, so you can play with the puppy when buying bread. But the feedback from teachers and classmates was not ideal. They thought that this would make the price of bread relatively expensive, and some classmates thought that there were already such places, which might lead to unclean food. After thinking about it, I decided to give up the pet direction and make a DIY bakery, so I needed to redraw the mind map.

Week 2 (29/09/2024)

Mind Maps

For the next step, I need to create two mind maps: one for "Business" and another for "Brand Name" based on my chosen career, which was pet bakery. I classified them as Initial because I wanted to improve/change the ideas later on.

Week 3 (07/10/2024)

Here are the sketches I did for my logo. I classified them as Initial because I would get feedback later on.

Figure T3.2: Sketches2 (Initial)

I haven't decided on the name of my brand yet. With the help of my teachers and classmates, I decided to name it my own baker. The logo I designed cannot have other colors, only white and black, so I need to modify it. The logo I designed is mainly cute. My teacher said I am good at mascot illustrations, which is my strong point.

Week 4  (14/10/2024)

This week, we continue to design our own brand logo, improve it according to the suggestions given by the teacher last week, and explore other forms more.I didn't have much inspiration this time.
Figure 4.1: Detailed Sketches3

Figure 4.2: Detailed Sketches4

Ms Li Lian said last week my sketches were much more interesting than this week I seem to have. seem to be a bit lost. I start to introduce a few animals and then they are a bit distracting.I introduced some animal elements in the logo, but these animal elements have no meaning and are not related to my brand. I can put my wordmark on the logo. This week's draft is a bit complicated and needs a simpler logo.

Week 5  (21/10/2024)

After the initial completion of the design and improvement of the logo, we need to digitize the selected logo. During this period, we need to carry out more exploration for a logo, such as modifying some details to make the logo present different states

I chose the logo I made in the first time, and made it more vivid by changing different expressions in the logo during the study.

Fig 5.1 Digitization

At the same time, I also made some artistic designs on the font of the logo, and tried to put it somewhere inside the logo, but it did not succeed

Ms Lilian said maybe his facial expression can be bigger a bit, because if I make your logo smaller, lets say I am going to put that logo here, you cannot see his face anymore, and I need to increase the expression. So far only 3 thigh faces, there are more. There are small type faces there. I can look for more typefaces.

Ms lilian gave me some suggestions on the location of the logo name, which can be placed under the logo and divided into two rows, or can be placed on the right side of the logo, which gives me some inspiration.
And I redesigned the fonts to make them easier to read.
I finally settled on the final form of the logo

Week 6  (28/10/2024)

We need to do more to explain and improve every detail of the logo, reverse logo, logo space rationalization and clear space, logo and principle, logo minimum size, logo animation from the logo and many other items

Reverse logo
At lilian's suggestion, I only added black to the shoes with the original logo.
Fig 6.1 Reverse logo

Logo in Color

I chose orange and green, which is different from the usual bakery logo, because I think adding green can highlight a healthy image.

Fig 6.2 Logo in color

LOGO SPACE RATIONALIZATION

I made a reasonable space according to the standard lines when designing the logo
Fig 6.3 Logo space Rationalization

Logo with Rational
I rethought my brand positioning and came up with a rationale

My own baker is a bakery that allows consumers to make their own bread or cakes. Professional bakers will teach during the process, allowing consumers to experience the fun of making to the greatest extent. After the making is completed, they can take away the products they made by themselves.
Fig 6.4 Logo with Rational

Logo Minimum size

The first time I tried, I designed two sizes, and based on lilian's suggestion, I was able to reduce the smallest size and add a middle size
Fig 6.5 Logo minimum Size

Patterns Devierd From Logo

I chose the shape of the chef's hat in the logo, which is more interesting, and designed it as a circle
Fig 6.6 Patterns Devierd From logo

GIF logo
According to the characteristics of my logo, it has the characteristics of human beings, so I hope to design a piece of bread that looks emotional, so I found some leg movements as a reference in the design, so I designed a piece of bread that is very happy after tasting the bread

Final Submission of Task 2B

Reflections

Experience
Though this assignment, When I made my own logo, I followed the pattern that the brand wanted and added some human elements to the logo. After many attempts and designs, I finally decided on a logo that could be digitized.

Observation
When making a logo, I found that it was easy to make one, but making many similar logos at the same time required more exploration and accumulation. This assignment gave me experience, and I need to discover and explore more distinctive logos in my future life.

Findings
Creating a logo takes a lot of thought and some good old experience from watching what works. There are definitely some rules to follow! Things like color and font choice really matter when it comes to the final look. This shows that a great logo isn’t just about being unique; it also needs to clearly show what the brand is all about and connect with the people it's meant for.
