Final Project - Animated infographic
In the first week of class, the teacher introduced us to the main content of the final project, assigned groups, and established the theme. We need to arrange the content of each week of the semester in a reasonable manner according to the progress.
DESCRIPTION:
Using a processed design framework, you will now produce an infographic report to present the given information to a ‘target audience’ with the purpose of:
1. Creating awareness (such as Global Warming, Recycle, etc.)
2. Explaining a process (such as "how to" video)
3. Defining a concept (such as "What is Fast Fashion", "What is Color Wheel", etc.)
Any time based media and software using photography, vector imagery.
Design Considerations:
● Organization Principles – LATCH and Content Organization
● Aesthetic Principles – Animation principles
● Cognitive Principles – Principles of visualization
Output Expectation:
The presentation must be deliberated on, consider each assessment rubric of sorts to your final outcome:
● Show causality
● Multivariate graphics and visuals
● Integrate word number and images
● Content count
● Within eyesight
● Use multiple charts
● Do not de-quantify

Week 1
Pick a team and a theme
In Week 1, we got the hang of making infographic videos. We focused on how to share a message in an engaging way using cool visuals and clear messaging. Mr. Fauzi Yusoff walked us through it all by showing some examples of infographic videos, pointing out important stuff like storyboarding, typography, motion graphics, and data visualization. These examples really helped us understand how to create content that's both fun and informative.
We kicked things off by chatting about what our final project should be about. Out of three main topics (raising awareness, explaining a process, or defining a concept), we decided to go with "explaining the process." We brainstormed together and came up with ideas like "How volcanoes erupt," "How to make handmade soap," and "How to make Mung bean cakes." The first week was all about teamwork and coming up with great ideas!

Week 2
Initially, we decided on "how to make mung bean cakes" as our topic, but found very limited resources online. So, after further discussion, we switched to "how to make mooncakes," which is more well-known and easier to research. Mr. Fauzi also advised us to study poor-quality infographic videos online to learn what not to do.
Week 3
This week, we worked on slide decks with individual assignments. I was responsible for the cultural story of mooncakes and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
This is the division of labor for our slides:
- Introduction - Tristan
- What is a mooncake? - Shao Han
- History of mooncake - Wu Ziyang
- Why mooncakes - Yong
- Target audience - Sheryne
- Mooncake festival/ mooncake story - Wangyifan
- Mooncake video we want to make infographic animation of -Yang jiayi
- Make infographic with info extraction from mooncake video - Velicia
- Style references - Zhang
- Ending statement - Tristan
- Bibliography - Yong

Week 5
Next, I made a storyboard with my team member sheyren

Week 6
This is our specific division of labor:
- Yang Jiayi: Scene 17-21(with ShaoHan);Scene 22,24
- Shao Han: Scene 8-11;Scene 17-21(with Jiayi)
- Velicia: Scene 1, 3, 4
- Sheryne: Scene 2, 5, 6, 7
- Valerie: Scene 12-16, 25-26
We completed all the illustrations as planned and exported the PNG layers to Google Drive for subsequent animation production. Wang Yifan started to convert the static images into dynamic images in AE.
W4
- make the information simpler.
- Make a script (using voiceover for the video) to be able to visualize the video.
- then make a storyboard.
- The animation doesn’t have to be fully illustrated per frame (I think he meant that we can use motion graphic animation so its easier)
W6
- piechart: the other objects can be smaller while the piechart can be made bigger.
- think and reevaluate about certain scenes bcs it may too long (with voiceover included).
- final editing: animate part by part. render so that we will have mov and mp4 (AE). move on to premiere pro: then can just slot in the renders based on timing.
- storytelling: eg. scene 1: highlight certain words like *Mooncakes* and *Tang Dynasty* in the animation.

Week 7
Simplifying Visuals & Finalizing Base Animation
- The illustrations are too detailed. Simplify them to speed up production.
- Focus on basic animations such as movement, rotation, scaling, and fade-in/fade-out.
- After completing the core animation, consider adding more visual details if time allows.
I have gained a lot this term. From choosing a subject to doing research, writing storyboards, drawing, recording voiceovers, and animating in After Effects, it wasn't smooth sailing for me and was fraught with many difficulties, but as I watched our work slowly approach success, I began to enjoy the process more.
One of the most valuable parts is teamwork. We had to communicate constantly, assign tasks clearly, and find ways to support each other. I enjoyed working with my team members. This experience taught me how to handle real collaboration in creative work
During the project, I felt that a clear division of labor was essential for animation production. In addition, timely communication and feedback among team members greatly improves work efficiency.
Although the principle of animation comes from dynamic design, its application to static graphics can also effectively enhance the efficiency of information communication, and the most important finding is that design must serve the purpose of information communication, not the other way around - visual effects can never obscure the clarity of information.
This project deepened my love for design, and when I saw a complete and beautiful animation presentation, I was very happy, although there were many difficulties in the process, and I even didn't know how to start at the beginning. I will apply the experience I have learned in this project to my future work
