INSTRUCTONS

As the part of the interdisciplinary project, we had to design the packaging of the food product being developed by business students (TBS). As design students we had to work together with TBS and SLAS students to develop a commercial viable product. This was done by ensuring cross-references in the packaging design and the brand of the product, target group of people, and the overall business strategy.

Our Responsibilities:

Research & Analysis: Get to know the product, its special selling points (USP) and carry out market and consumer research in order to pin the target audience.

Concept Development: Development fresh and innovative design ideas of the packaging design that contains message of the brand and customized to the targeted consumer.

Design Implementation: Create a polished final design of the package based on a suitable size, attractive appearance and conveying of the product.

Collaboration: Liaise with students in other faculties to be sure that our design can make use of the business model, marketing strategy and consumer profile.

The project necessitated the critical thinking process, good design skills, and ability to work in teams to take a product made by students nearer to the market.

After TBS's pitching from all the groups, I chose "DYO", along with my formed group.

Logo Making

On week 4 to week 6, our group propose our logo making to the psychology student.

This is dyo 4 groups' logo. After we make it, we choose 1 from every group.

And then we voted for the final logo.

This is the final logo's rational:
The logo for Dyö is centred around the “ö”, a letterform that incorporates two dots which symbolise the dual connected compartments of the tumbler. It also resembles a surprised face 😮which shows the element of surprise of the product (dual purpose). The choice of lowercase letters gives the brand a more friendly and approachable tone.

Then we began to do the packaging design based on the different product features of each group. Our group is "DYO ACTIVE" (for fitness person).

At first, I made a dieline for the bottle packaging.

Then, based on the research results of psychology students, I began to do packaging design in response to consumers' tendencies.

This is our DYO ACTIVE group's first Packaging design.

After consultated with Mr. Shamsul, our design need to be fix a little.

This is our project 2 presentaiton slide and final design.

REFLECTION

Participating in this project was a challenging experience for me, mainly because it required working with a large team from diverse backgrounds. However, I'm very glad that all the team members were very cooperative and supportive. The process of working with them was very pleasant, and their design abilities are all excellent.

During this process, I not only enhanced my communication skills but also learned how to communicate efficiently in large teams.

In terms of specific implementation, we first complete the initial sketches respectively. Then, the psychology students select their favorite concepts and assign subsequent tasks based on the chosen designs. This method enables everyone to make a substantive contribution to the final outcome.
